Congratulations to Bo Scott for his win at the Dixie Sailing Club's Po Ol Kowaliga Regatta the weekend of October 3 & 4. Bo Scott and Jennifer Bennett both scored 14 points for a first-place tie after five races, with the tiebreaker going to Bo. Dixie Sailing Club is the host of the 2027 Catalina 22 National Championship Regatta next June 5 to 10 on Lake Martin, Alabama.

Jim Simons of the Dixie Sailing Club reported:

  • The POK this year returned DSC to the level of competition we experienced in the good old days, when C22 sailors traveled to DSC for the competition.
  • Watching the Gold Fleet sailors compete was inspiring. In DSC races, the fleet quickly spreads, so finishes can vary by a factor of two. These Gold Fleet sailors were sailing in a competitive, tight group.
  • Hosting sailors from Chicago and Detroit, along with many closer clubs, demonstrated a significant interest in coming to DSC to sail. Why? Because of Jennifer, Keith, Mickey, and Bobby. The traveling Gold Fleet sailors came for the competition, demonstrating a healthy C22 fleet.
  • They travel long distances to race against competition and then share the experience with others in the Gold Fleet.
  • Before the races, during the break between starts, after the races, and after the regatta, they were, to use a phrase, collegial. They renewed friendships from other regattas and rehashed the earlier races. Even though they don't see each other every week, they catch up instantly.
  • To sum it up, they were just a friendly bunch.
  • I was glad that my race committee was able to organize and run races that allowed the level of competition they expected.
